Get re-acquainted with this iconic fragrance

Thierry Mugler’s Angel is worth another look.

Perfume is a funny thing – we have such an intimate connection with it, and even just its name, scent or bottle can conjure up such specific memories. If the early 90s were to be defined by a single perfume, it will be undoubtedly be Thierry Mugler’s Angel – that star-shaped glass bottle, the name, that powerfully sweet scent. Named as the favourite of pre-eminent perfume expert Chandler Burr (he’s the only perfume reviewer to be employed by the New York Times), Angel evokes strong reactions for its complex and distinguishable scent. This is for a certain type of woman; the woman who wears Angel knows what she likes, she’s confident in her tastes and her decision.
But, as befitting the best of icons, there’s been a genesis of a new star in the Angel universe. The Mugler studio designers have cast their eye over the star-shaped bottle, turning it into a three-dimensional star with even more facets; and the Angel Gravity Star was born. “We wanted a star that would pay tribute to the celestial dimension of Angel,” says Virginie Delpeuc’h and Stephane Calvi, the artistic directors at Thierry Mugler, who worked on the new Angel Gravity bottle shape. “This star belongs in the sky; this is why it has not been designed with a specific ‘bottom’. It can be placed on any of its facets. This is why it defies the laws of gravity.”
To celebrate the birth of a new star in the Angel perfume legend, Thierry Mugler is offering one person the chance to make their mark in the universe by naming a star in the night sky, as well as a bottle of the new Angel Gravity Star Eau de Parfum and an Angel pampering pack. There are also five minor prize packs to be won, with the total prize pool worth over $2000.Enter the competition now.
It’s the chance to get to know an icon, all over again.

7 Practical Tips for Finding Your Signature Scent

The hunt for the perfect perfume ends here with these tips for finding your signature scent. Creating your signature scent and finding one to call your own can be a tough, sensory overload experience that can often leave you more confused than certain, and worse off, empty handed. To seek out your personalized fragrance, follow these 7 tips for finding your signature scent and get spritzing!
1. KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE
Beginning your journey to finding your signature scent begins with knowing what you like and what you don’t like. The best way to do this is to compile a list of all the fragrances you like and the ones you don’t. Next to each fragrance jot down what you like or dislike about them all to help give you a starting point when looking for your favorite and perfect scent.
2. CONSIDER YOUR PERSONALITY
Understanding your personality will help in finding your signature scent as these two are closely linked together. The goal in finding your signature scent is to pick a fragrance that immediately registers in someone else’s mind as your smell. You want #people to register a specific perfume with you and the best way to do this is to look to your personality. Although there are several fragrance personality quizzes you can take online to determine your signature scent, the simplest way is to be honest with yourself. If you are a shy, reserved person chances are your scent is not going to be strong, overbearing or powerful. Be true to who you are and pick a scent that relates to your personality.
3. SKIN TEST
When trying and sampling different scents in department stores, it’s best to test it on your own skin. Most perfumes come alive on your skin and react with your body’s natural chemistry so a scent that smells absolutely amazing in the bottle can smell awful on your #skin and vice versa, which is why it’s so important to test before buying. Try different perfumes on your wrist and inner arm to sample the scent on various areas of your #body.
4. SLEEP WITH IT ON
After trying a handful of different perfumes you may feel overwhelmed or caught up in the moment, which is why this next tip gives you a moment to stop and sleep on it – literally! Going to sleep with a fragrance on is a good way to determine how much you actually like the scent away from pushy salespeople and over scented department stores. When you wake up in the morning and you still like and want to wear it, it’s a good indication that the scent suits you and can become your signature fragrance.
5. FIND YOUR FAVORITE FRAGRANCE FORMULA
When it comes down to it, perfume is a science, and fragrances come in many forms… but the most popular formulas are parfum, eau de parfum and eau de toilette. Parfums are generally the most concentrated scents, with less alcohol content… and they are usually the more expensive, high-end perfumes on the market. An eau de parfum is still a concentrated scent, with more alcohol content, while an eau de toilette contains the most amount of alcohol. Eau de parum and eau de toilette are usually everyday fragrances that can be spritzed all over the #body without an overpowering smell. Finding your favorite fragrance formula will help to create a simple process of elimination when determining your signature scent.
6. KNOW YOUR NOTES
Fragrances can cover seven different categories, Cyprus, floral, wooded, leather, musk, oriental or hesperidia. Knowing each of these categories and notes will help you decide which scents you like the most and use most commonly in lotions, powders and soaps. The Cyprus category, named after the island, has woody-mossy mixes with hints of citrus and patchouli. Floral notes are the most popular of perfumes with rose scents and other flower fragrances. Wooded scents are earthy fragrances that contain traces of nutty and spicy smells with some hints of cinnamon or tobacco. Leather scents have a dry, smoky fragrance usually mixed with lighter topnotes to create balance and fragrance symmetry. Musks are strong, sexy scents and are commonly associated with sharp male scents. Oriental notes are rich and warm with vanilla blended with sweet spices and exotic flowers. Hesperidia is the category that falls into crisp, fresh citrus scents.
7. STICK TO THREE SCENTS
When you’ve finally picked out the scents you want to sample and test, remember to stick to no more than three scents per trial. Testing a variety of fragrances leaves your sense of smell confused and after awhile #everything begins blending together and smelling the same. Sniffing coffee beans between samples will help to clear your nose, but testing any more than three fragrances at a #time can be overwhelming, so sticking to this general rule of thumb will not only help you find your signature scent, but it’ll also help you avoid any over scented headaches.
The perfect perfume has the ability to capture the essence of the person wearing it, so before heading out and shopping your fragrances remember these tips for finding your signature scent and you’ll be well on your way to creating a memorable scent that defines you! What’s your signature scent and what are some of your shopping tips for picking out perfume?

Perfume Facts

Do you know that the perfume was used for a cover- up? Back in time when bathing was a rare luxury even the rich didn’t indulge in very often, perfumes were used to cover up unpleasant scents that came as a result of such questionable personal hygiene. Rich but rather smelly, European aristocracy relied on these expensive mixtures to help mask the “scents” produced by days and even months of not bathing.

Perfume Facts

Do you know the first modern perfume as made in 1370?
“Hungary Water” made in 1370 is said to be the first perfume that resembles the ones we use today. Before this date, perfumes were mostly fragrant oils and who knows… Maybe we’d still use those if Hungarian monks didn’t think of adding alcohol to the mixture. This perfume was made for Queen Elisabeth of Hungary and, in order for it to have the maximum effect, it had to be drunk as well as applied to the body! Hmm, now if that’s not one of the most interesting facts about perfumes I don’t know what is!

Paris Hilton has launched her 17th scent in the UK

The hotel heiress has made a fortune in her own right, with a fragrance empire worth over $2 billion.
Her 17th creation, With Love, Paris Hilton, hit UK shelves yesterday, and the blonde star has been feeling the love on Instagram.
“CurrentMood (sic),” she posted next to a photo of a T-shirt covered in rose print, with the words Paris in Love.
The new perfume is made up of fruity, floral and citrus notes. Green apple, bergamot and wild jasmine fuse well together to give a light, fresh scent.
“Just like my fans, I’ve evolved over the years and this new fragrance represents that. It’s different from my last fragrance Dazzle, which was very pink and girly; With Love, Paris Hilton is sophisticated and confident, but still feminine, which I think a lot of my fans will relate to,” Paris said.
Made with perfumer Harry Frémont, With Love, Paris Hilton sums up the 34-year-old.
“I wanted to incorporate some of her favourite scents, blending with ingredients that capture her essence,” he said.
“Her elegance is embodied through top notes of juicy, crunchy fruits like kiwi and green apple kissed by the sparkle of bergamot. Like Paris, the heart of the fragrance is ultra-feminine as it blooms with wild jasmine, fresh orchid and the tenderness of muguet. A sensual finish of modern woods, musk and radiant ambergris recalls her inherent sensuality.”
An eager fan also helped Paris feel the love yesterday, when he proposed to her in LA. Superbike racer Johnny Rock Page used a plane to pop the question, with “Marry Me Paris Whitney Hilton Honoring Jesus Christ. 269?” trailed across the sky.
TMZ claims Johnny is an obsessed fan who has been trying to win Paris’ heart for some time. Unfortunately for him, Paris is currently in Ibiza, where she DJs.

Your Nose Doesn’t Know: Apparently, your nose gets used to your signature fragrance, and you can only smell it when it’s first applied or when you consciously pay attention to it. Lesson: do not over-spritz for the sake of those around you.

Bethany Mota New Fragrance, Magazine Cover and Road Travel

Bethany Mota has become one of the most popular and well known Youtubers to date. And what comes with that is a schedule so hectic it would make a normal persons head spin. Mota has had a number of exciting announcements this week. Starting on Saturday, Mota announced to her channel that she would be doing a ten day road trip across the United States to promote her brand new “Bethany Noel” perfume with Aeropostale.

On Monday, Mota kicked of her road trip at Aeropostale in New York City. The event was a meet and greet and launch party for the newly released fragrance. This is the second of Mota’s fragrances with the clothing store, her original perfume was a self titled number. “Bethany Noel” features scents of “lemon meringue, dewberry, maple syrup and vanilla crystals, and it has an intriguingly addictive finish.”

Mota has done plenty with the Aeropostale in recent years. This past month she released her series of home decor with them which included fun bedding and pillows and wall decor. Along with that Mota has a featured continuous clothing line with the brand as well as jewelry line.
Mota’s road trip will hit five cities at a meet and greet in a local Aeropostale. The locations will all be revealed here on the Aeropostale site. You can also follow along online as Mota shared in the announcement video that the tour would be filmed as well.
This week Mota also shared shots from her cover photo shoot for Latina Magazine. Moto will be  featured on the cover of the September issue to discuss “redefin[ing] style for millennials”, according to the cover.
Mota shared, “”I had really bad anxiety. I would have panic attacks every time I was around a lot of people. I didn’t even want to hang out with my family members.” Mota’s struggle with anxiety and depression came after a fake MySpace profile was created under her name and was used it to criticize her body as a preteen.
“It got to the point that I didn’t think I could ever shake this. I thought, ‘My God, this is going to be my life forever,” She added. “Clearly, talking about it still brings up painful memories. … I was scared to express my opinion or talk because I was afraid of judgment. I thought, ‘I’m always going to be too scared to live life.’ That’s when I knew I had to do something, and I started doing the videos.”
Those videos have now gained Mota nearly 10 million subscribers on Youtube, she’s interviewed President Obama, and was on “Dancing with the Stars”! Moto has in fact usurped original Youtube beauty icon Michelle Phan who currently has close to 8 million subscriber. There’s no stoping her there though, no doubt we will be hearing of another endeavor from Miss Mota soon!
You can find out where Bethany is headed next here! Watch her announcement and road trip tips video below!

Perfume Facts #8

Strange Beginnings: Ambergris is one of the most valuable raw materials in perfumery, used as an ingredient with a smell that’s described as ocean-y and sweet. It also happens to be produced in the intestines of sperm whales—who knew whale vomit could be so fragrant? Nowadays, perfumes like Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue Escape to Panarea ($75) include synthetic versions of this rare ingredient.

The Sonic perfume has a “floral” scent.

The Klaus V. Reinherz perfume has a “floral herb” scent.

Everything You Need to Know About PERFUME

Is your favorite fragrance a floral? If so, you’re not alone – but there is a whole world of scents to explore beyond bouquets says by the perfume society

Q Why does a perfume smell great on me at first but ‘icky’ later?
A: Many perfumes are blended with notes – such as citrus – which give an initial zing. These evaporate quickly, though, allowing the middle and base notes to become more dominant: they’re heavier and hang around longer. You’ve got to be sure you like all stages of a fragrance’s ‘journey’ before buying it.
Q: I found an old bottle of perfume. Do you think it’s OK to use?
A: Well, it won’t kill you. But a lot depends on how well the fragrance was stored. If the scent is less than two years old, it’s probably fine (especially if unopened). Test the scent on a tissue. If it seems to smell sour, or ‘off’, heat and oxidation may have broken down the fragrance molecules. The very best place to store fragrance to make it last is in a cool, dark place.
Q: Is the fragrance in a department store tester the same one I’m buying?
A: Yes, absolutely. The whole idea is to give you a sense of what the fragrance smells like – and we can assure you that fragrance houses don’t have special bottles for in-store spritzing. The only difference might be that the in-store tester, if it’s been around for a while, may have been slightly affected by heat and light, both of which can damage a perfume. A clue can be if there’s just a little of the perfume left in the bottle; you can always ask for a fresh tester to be put out (and any fragrance sales consultant really ought to oblige).
Q: I’m very concerned about animal testing and cruelty. Do perfumes contain animal ingredients?
A: Nowadays, almost certainly not. Although animal-derived ingredients used to be among some of those most prized by perfumers, they have almost all been replaced by synthetic versions, which are a) cheaper, b) more reliable, and c) don’t upset conservationists and those who (like us and like you) are concerned about animal welfare. Because ingredients are so hush-hush, though, you can’t be 100 per cent sure that a fragrance is free from animal ingredients – and even the customer-care line probably can’t tell you. We can only echo the advice of perfume expert Luca Turin: ‘If you are really concerned about the possibility that something might have an animal ingredient, buy something recent and cheap.’
Q: What sort of perfumes should I wear for a job interview?
A: When you feel comfortable in an interview, you’ll do your best, which means not only choosing the right clothing, but selecting a scent carefully. The rule of thumb is to make sure it’s on the light side and to apply just a touch. If you have one that makes you feel calm and relaxed, wear a drop of that. Otherwise, a very, very light floral can work, or just a splash of a cologne when you’re getting dressed: the citrus notes will make you feel focused and alert, but the chances are
by the time you get to your appointment, they’ll have completely dissipated, as colognes have a short life on the skin. But, remember, in this situation less is more – so if you’re anxious about overdoing it, go scent-free.
Q: Can I wear more than one fragrance at a time?
A: We believe this is going to be a massive trend. In the Middle East, women (and men) wear as many as seven different fragrances at a time, to create an entirely ‘unique’ and personal fragrance. This is pretty much heresy as far as the creators of perfumes are concerned – but certainly in a region where people’s clothing is very standardised it’s an effective form of self-expression. What we find works best is to combine two fragrances from within a family (see page 89): pair a couple of orientals, or a duo of fresh scents. It’s fun, and if you don’t like the results you can wash them off – you might even come up with a combo that you love, love, love. But go lightly: you want a dab of this and a dab of that, rather than twice or three times the usual ‘dose’ you apply, if you don’t want to overpower.
Q: Should I buy perfume at Duty Free?
A: Yes, absolutely. But we recommend you to check other great legit stores that also provides online services and shipping. You can try to check websites such as perfumeslosangeles.com located in downtown LA. In that way, you can save money as they sell branded perfumes in a modest price and find hot new trend fragrances and exclusive editions.
Q: I love my friend’s perfume. Why doesn’t it smell as good on me?
A: Everyone’s body chemistry is different, influenced by hormones, skin type, what you eat, medications you may take and more. Simply adding a new vitamin or supplement to your wellbeing regime can change how a fragrance smells on your skin. Even experts can’t pinpoint which factors change perfume the most, or predict how a scent will be altered: it might become more sour, or more sweet. What is known is that deeper, richer notes – woods and ambery ingredients, for instance – won’t change as much from person to person as do the fresher, more volatile ingredients such as citrus or lily. The bottom line is: don’t ever buy a fragrance because you like it on a friend. More than that, never buy a fragrance without trying it on your own skin – full stop.
Q: Can I wear my perfume in the sun?
A: Definitely not! With the exception of fragrances that advertise that they’re ‘safe’ for sun exposure (some of the leading beauty brands occasionally bring these out), there are good reasons not to wear your perfume in the sun. Certain widely used fragrance ingredients contain psoralens, components that over-stimulate the pigment-producing cells, producing localised brown patches (which have the official medical name berloque dermatitis), a streak of brown pigment akin to a raindrop running down a window pane. The solution? If you want to enjoy a summer fragrance in
the sun, try spritzing it on your clothing rather than your skin. (Check first, of course, that it doesn’t discolour the fabric: you can try it on a tissue.) Wear a ribbon around a wrist or your neck that has been drenched in scent à la Marie Antoinette and her mob. Soak some cotton wool in fragrance and tuck it into your bra (or your swimsuit, if you’re not planning to get wet). Just be certain to cleanse away the fragrance next morning with a wet flannel before you go anywhere near the sun.
Q: What can I do when I’ve applied too much perfume?
A: One answer is to grab a lemon: the juice’s acidity (more powerful than other citrus fruit) helps to cut the fragrance’s oil. Wash with soap and water, then take off what’s left with a cotton pad soaked in lemon juice.

Deluxe label Montblanc reveals Lady Emblem, as the ladies version of its latest Emblem fragrance series. Lady Emblem is presented as a classy and feminine aroma with a shiny floral, radiant fruity and warm woody character.
The concentration begins with red currant jam, pink rose and peach while the heart is striking and impressive, along with accords of sandalwood, patchouli and rosewood. In the closing trail, the composition reflects solid tastes of musk and raspberry.
The bottle style is inspired by a faceted precious stone colored in a soft pink hue similar to a scarce pink diamond.
Look for the new perfume Montblanc Lady Emblem in the 2nd half of 2015 and discover it in sizes of 30ml, 50ml and 75ml in Eau de Parfum formulation.

2015 Thierry Mugler Alien Oud Majestueux – New Fragrance!

Thierry Mugler launched a new version of Alien called Alien Oud Majestueux.
The new composition is presented as an Oriental variation on the original woody white floral while it is labeled as a woody ambery floral.
The eau de parfum opens on top notes of cardamom and saffron followed by a heart of jasmine and Cashmeran underlining the olfactory signature of Alien “made more sublime thanks to the radiant wreaths of the oud accord.” A “new opulence” can reportedly be experienced with this new Alien.
The inside of the new bottle has been resurfaced with mirrors to inspire “refinement and femininity.”
Available in 90 ml for 130€.
There has been so much focus on oud these last times that it’s become a bit of a running joke in perfume circles to try to guess at which perfume houses are still without their oud signature. We probably can expect an Angel Oud sometime in the future.
